The intention is to provide Wola Nani with a series of sustainable design outcomes, which will add value to their product range without adding cost. Through primary research we hope to gather sufficient insight and understanding to develop new and innovative product ranges & manufacturing techniques.

Wola Nani is an NGO based in Cape Town that has been operating since 1994 to assist people living with HIV and AIDS. Their Income Generation project is an important component that offers an opportunity for people to access an income and to regain a sense of value. The Income Generation: Craft Project is currently only able to help between 32 and 48 clients, depending on orders. Yet Wola Nani sees about 700 people per month, therefore we are only able to assist about 6.86% with a source of income.

We hope to provide Wola Nani with new product forms and innovative manufacturing techniques by focused research on areas including; market opportunities, sustainable materials, making and manufacturing processes, tooling and former design, tooling and former manufacturing and form design as it relates to brand and South African identity. The project constraints are the use of paper as the manufacturing material, the unskilled workforce and the sustainability of the design solutions.
