After graduating from the Royal College of Art and working for Tom Dixon he established Sam Design Ltd. Clients have included Authentics, Driade, Levis, Offi and Mathmos. His work is concerned with the familiar and in particular our perception of materials, forms and making techniques. He is interested in intelligent making; the shrewd and creative use of materials and manufacturing techniques. In 2001 he was awarded the Peugeot Design Award for Ceramics. He is head of Product & Furniture Design at Kingston University and teaches at the Royal College of Art.
